When it comes to start-ups, any Silicon Valley VC will tell you that what you’re really investing in is the founder and team. Everything else – from the product to the pitch – can and likely will change, so you have to look at the people.
We spent a week at Nod Labs’ Mountain View office, filming the team as they raced towards the launch of their first product, a ring that let its wearer control connected devices with the tap of a finger. We shared meals and late nights with the engineers and designers, and they opened up to us about their work. The resulting piece was an intimate, unscripted portrayal of the people and values behind the product and technology. The video helped the company win new investors, it also served as invaluable recruiting tool. An added bonus – we were able to use extra footage from the shoot to create a short product demo for the launch that was picked up by major news outlets, including TechCrunch, Wired and CNET.
