Studio Coffee is a documentary project that explores what it takes to be a small business owner in the specialty coffee industry, from farm to cup. The mission for this project is to visualize the complexity of the market, with a goal to contextualize the real-world costs of producing a cup of coffee and inspire coffee drinkers like myself to support specialty coffeehouses.

Backstory

I was first introduced to specialty coffee, when I was living in San Francisco. I was a frequent patron of Blue Bottle, Four Barrel, Philz and Sightglass Coffee. When I moved back to New York there was a pause in my coffee shop consumption. I had a Nespresso machine at home and was happy with it. Something hit in 2023 and I decided that I wanted to rediscover specialty coffee, it’s growing regions, how to roast and properly brew. I started the year by taking two SCA foundation courses at the Academy at Coffee Project NY. The experience inspired me to continue my studies here at the Studio, learning through the process of air roasting and brewing by hand.
